WHERE ARE YOU ?
The show was accompanied by a beautifully illustrated children’s book written by the creative team and illustrated by Lena Korsah. A standalone film based on the book was also produced:
Where Are You? is a hybrid theatre production for families that tells the story of two penpals, Rochi in Bearwood (UK) and Abena in Dzorwulu (Ghana), who embark on a perilous journey across land, mountains, sea, and bridges, courting danger and adventure in order to meet each other in the middle. This film is based upon the illustrated children's book that accompanied the production.
Where Are You? was produced by Black Country Touring (UK) and Accra Theatre Workshop (Ghana), commissioned by Birmingham 2022 Festival with funding from the British Council.
"Accra to the World" is a research paper on how to tour theatre in Ghana.
Thanks to Utopia Theatre UK, we got to shadow their touring season and model a guide based off their practices.
The project was funded by the British Council Cultural Exchange programme, which supports cultural organisations, festivals, artists, and creatives between the countries of Sub-Saharan Africa and the UK to create art, build networks, collaborate and develop markets and share artists’ work with audiences.
